- Draft of Aim 3 sent to PI yesterday
- His extra analyses done (minus 1 that neither of us can think of a good way to address) -- I just need to send them to him
- Got a revise and resubmit from a journal on my Aim 2 paper, and not only do all the comments seem addressable, but the reviewers also seem to be thinking along the same lines as I am vis a vis future directions
- Draft of dissertation will (hopefully) be completed this week... though if it's not it won't be my fault since my PI might not be able to get his comments on my Aim 3 to me by the end of the week
- Am enjoying reading peds stuff as I review for my return to clinics
- 50 degree weather
- Dyls has been healthy (knock on wood) and in a stellar mood these past several days. It's such a joy being around her when she's all smiles.
- Dyls has been trying to run. It's really cute.
- As you know, I've been having angst about residency and how little I might see the Pickle. I was talking to my friend the resident the other day, and she told me, "You may have more time than you think to see her during residency," which made me feel sooooo much better.
Hopefully they will keep going this way for a while. It's nice when things start to fall into place, even if you know it's only temporary.
Its only fair that someone should be in a good mood today. If it can't be me I am glad it is you:-) I knew things would fall into place.
ReplyDeleteYeah! Enjoy it, hopefully it'll last!
ReplyDeleteBabies running, OMG its the best. I so missed those days.
ReplyDeleteif you end up doing peds - during my residency, it was very up-and-down -- some rotations (NICU, PICU) were really all-consuming and others were really really easy and 9-5ish - even cushier on rare occasions! so i think it's absolutely possible you will be able to see dylan (and . . .#2 if you decide!?) a really decent amount overall. PLUS, it is only 3 years.
ReplyDeletein addition, you have the benefit of having a sign other with a real job. hence, decent funds for support staff (i.e. nanny, au pair, cleaners, etc). definitely think this could help as well as you can really minimize the non-work, non-childcare stuff.
not saying it would be easy but not horrible either!! i would definitely DEFINITELY try to pick a program that has a lifestyle that is not punishingly hard. i know this can vary. (i do recommend duke so . . . let me know if do end up thinking about applying here!)
This is really good to know -- Thank you so much! I am definitely considering Duke / UNC. My husband's company has a branch in the research triangle that he works with regularly, and the cost of living is very reasonable. I know UNC has great Epidemiology. Do you know how that is at Duke?
DeleteI do not think we are as renowned as UNC in that, but there are a lot of really big clinical researchers at the DCRI (duke clinical research institute). in peds here you would probably be a HUGE benefit to some of the subspecialists doing bigger projects but without the stats/epi expertise that you would bring. i think duke would probably salivate over you :) and lifestyle/cost of living wise i think it would be an awesome choice for you as a mom. so sad that i'll be long gone before you interview!!
DeleteGo to Duke! It is a really high quality of life, and, as you said, the cost of living is MUCH more affordable....And Duke is beautiful...I don't think they have a ton in the way of epi - nowhere near as good as UNC, but their med school/hospital system is definitely top rate (from what I perceived as a lowly undergrad)...
