The little colonizers

I have to admit: one of my favorite pastimes is browsing baby clothes.  And OMG dresses for toddler girls are sooooo cute!  Though probably horribly impractical.

So far I have been able to restrain myself from purchasing anything.  My goal is to wait as long as possible before buying the summer clothes because Dyls is going to most likely be starting to need 24 months sized clothes come July, and I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff she'll wear for like one month and then outgrow.

We still get lots of catalogs though, which I love to peruse instead of do work.  Today we got a Tea Collection catalog.  Specifically the South African Inspiration collection, which I showed to [au pair] who is from South Africa.  We both had a good chuckle over it.

Ok first of all, they depict the kids standing in tents.  Like the natives people in South Africa all live in tents or something?  Second, the amount of khaki was hilarious.  I suppose every one who lives in South Africa dresses as though they are about to go shoot wild game on a safari.  And finally only white and East Asian children were depicted -- but strangely enough, no black or Indian children).  I suppose that makes sense since clearly only white people colonize live in South Africa.

(I'm sure nobody finds this as hilariously wrong as I do.  You probably had to be there.)

The clothing was pretty darn cute though!

  1. That's hilarious, haha

Also, on baby clothes, my friend and I were consignment store shopping and we came across baby/toddler designer clothes. After asking WHO THE F*** would buy these things for their kids, we started talking about our respective nieces in those things.

Then we realized. Aunt DV and Aunt DV's friend would buy the clothes for our respective nieces. Yup

  2. That's funny! I definitely do not browse children's clothing as a past-time...maybe I would if I had a daughter?

    1. Yeah it's definitely a girl thing. The boy's clothes generally aren't as cute.

  3. oh my god. i spend too much time looking at clothes! I have thought that the tea "countries" are so weird but I love their clothes and can attest that they hold up well to washing, etc.

    1. I've heard great things about their clothes both from you and others. I literally CANNOT WAIT for spring to arrive to give me the excuse I've been looking for to order some adorable little dresses and tops from them. I know you understand.

I think you mentioned Tea Collection in a previous post about "high quality" baby clothes (do you remember when that was from? I'd love to refer back to it). I remember you also noted that Hannah Andersson was good quality, so I bought some stuff from them.... and whaddyaknow, you were right. You seriously should get commissions from these places!
